Since I travel to Nashville fairly regularly, I've been asked a few times where I'd recommend eating out while there. I certainly won't claim to have a definitive take on the best choices in town, but here are a few of the places I've enjoyed the most:
Chauhan Ale & Masala House - Trendy "Indian" flavors by Maneet Chauhan of the Food Network. Posted on our first visit here a few months ago.
Tin Angel - Probably the place I've gone back to the most times. Conveniently located near Vanderbilt, it's a favorite for us to host our son and his friends for get-togethers.
Pharmacy Burger - Love this place! Great burgers, sausages, and beer in East Nashville.
Taco Mamacita - Fun (and tasty) tex-mex joint. If I'm willing to go for Mexican food when not in Texas, it's good. Trust me.
Josephine's - This has become our favorite dinner place in the 12-South area of town. Start with a top-notch cocktail and save room for one of their spectacular desserts!
Husk - It's been a while, but for upscale modern American cuisine, we really enjoyed Husk. I don't know how it compares with the original in Charleston, but we had a great meal here.
Arnolds Country Kitchen - A local cultural institution...perhaps the most famous of the traditional Tennessee "meat & 3" cafeterias. Comfort food with a capital "C"!
Margot Café - Another recent addition to the list...traditional and modern French food in an attractive little place at Five Points in East Nashville.
Smiling Elephant - Little tiny place with really excellent Thai food...great place for vegetarians.
Thai Phooket - The other Thai place I've tried in Nashville. Centrally located, very well-known, and quite good, but I actually prefer the food at Smiling Elephant.
Monel's - Another Tennessee comfort food bonanza...this one in Germantown best experienced with a big group to get the most out of the uncompromising "family-style" service (the correct way to pass the food will be explained to you)! :)
In the interest of space, here are a few more places worth checking out as well: City House, Germantown Café, Hattie B's, Loveless Café.
Those of you who know Nashville better than I do, or have suggestions for places I should try next, chime in! I'll be there again next month...thanks!
