Houston restaurant mini-review #1 of 2018...finally!

To get almost two weeks into the year without dining out in Houston is not normal...but we got around to it eventually: Presidio (https://presidiohtx.com) in the Heights.
First and most important, this place serves arguably the tastiest chicken wings I have ever had anywhere! They are like eating every kind of delicious wing (spicy, sweet, bbq, buffalo, asian, etc.) in one amazing recipe – they’re big and juicy and perfect and served over some kind of delicious
paprika/cayenne sauce. I went with all small plates this time: the wings, some smoked black garlic potatoes (awesome!), and creamy smoked salmon croquettes (excellent, although not quite as good as the ones at Oporto). The craft beer list is solid and the cocktails (while not exotic) are well-made and fairly potent.
We’ve been here twice now and really liked it. We’ve seen some negative reviews, some of which seem to reflect misplaced expectations (i.e., it’s a fairly short menu of high-end bar food, so if you’re looking for lots of variety, a healthy/veggie/guilt-free dinner or fill-up-on-the-cheap junk food, you’re going to be disappointed). Other complaints are just off-base in my opinion. The ingredients and preparations are high quality, nothing is overpriced for what you get, the design is cool (including patios on both ends – one with some family-friendly games) and the service has been pleasant, competent, and prompt both times we’ve gone. Check it out, and decide for yourself (and try the wings!).
